Merlin Moon-Beamish

Hello fellow crazy rainbow honey bee… It gives me great pleasure to introduce the next of the cats…give it up for the magical, the magnificent Merlin Moon-Beamish!

Merlin Moon - Beamish
Merlin Moon – Beamish

“Merlin Moon-Beamish likes to believe
He’s a majestic jungle Jaguar –
Never tell him it isn’t so!
Merlin comes from a long line of Beamish cats,
A rich ancestry it’s worthy to know:
All Beamish cats have wild imaginations
And six toes on every paw.
All have practiced moon magic and
Occasionally break the law…
But not one in a long line of history
Or so it has been told
Could resist a pink crocheted blanket
Even Beamish cats get cold!”

Prints of Mr Moon-Beamish are available here:  Merlin!

Charlie Cupcakes
Charlie Cupcakes

“Charlie Cupcakes has a sweet tooth
and many a double chin.
He is known as ‘Fatty Cupcakes’
in feline mafioso circles,
of which he’s a major kingpin.
Charlie’s in charge of making cakes disappear
and is excellent at his job.
Loved by many, feared by Victoria Sponge
He’s a favourite of the mob.
Charlie appears slim and dapper in all portraits
And It’s this carefully crafted belief
Which hides the true identity
Of this mastermind cupcake thief.”

For Scientific Americat
She’s more than a pretty face.
In one of her lifetimes she advised Albert Einstein
In another she helped Stephen Hawking surmise

“Clawdius Fin
lets the Goldfish swim
out of their bowl and
into his dreams.
When awake he
plots and prowls,
then washes his paw
thinking all the while…
Those fish would be oh so yummy
if they swam from their bowl
into my tummy…”

London Holds My Mind Open

Hello fellow star spotted daydreamer…  Your comfy chair is being re-upholstered…hahaha just kidding!  It’s right where you left it as are an abundance of drinks and snacks…  Another amazing feature of my cosy den which I don’t think I’ve mentioned yet is a never ending supply of in-date milk!  Sour milk is one of my personal bugbears so I hereby declare that all milk in my den will be eternally fresh!  On that note please help yourself to tea or coffee or a milkshake…or if you would prefer something stronger, the bar is always open… So this post is about a pen and ink drawing I’ve called ‘London Holds my Mind Open.’  Here is an ‘in process’ picture of it:

There's something in your hair!
There’s something in your hair!

I was thinking about Mary Poppins handbag when I drew this picture.  Do you remember that scene in the movie where she opens her bag and pulls out a standing lamp complete with frilly lampshade?  Haha classic!  The whole ‘its bigger on the inside’ idea is a favourite of mine (yes, I am a Doctor Who fan!) and I’ve loved the city of London for a long time, lifetimes perhaps; I’ve often arrived at places in London I’ve never been to before, and felt right at home.  One such place is the East End where I was lucky enough to live for several years.  To me this is the heart of London and it really does open your mind like a handbag and expand it with delightful, weird, smelly, ancient, modern, beautiful, dirty, inspiring, brutal, shocking, wonderful things…  And that my fellow fabulous feisty time charmer, is what the completed illustration is all about:

The Cats of Cosy Den…

Hello fellow super cool space monkey…sink into your comfy chair and relax.  New on the snack menu today is another one of my favourites – chargrilled artichokes!  I can finish off a whole tub of these blissful little treats in one sitting, just on their own, no distractions so help yourself and share in the sublime…Oh wait, sorry, I’ve eaten them all!  Hahaha!  Don’t worry I’m joking!  I don’t think I’ve mentioned this yet but when delicious things come to an end in my cosy den they are instantly replenished!  Oh and you can eat as much as you like and never get fat…  Yes, you should definitely visit more often!

So I’ve decided that, alongside sharing my pen and ink drawings I will be sharing the cats of cosy den… when I first started imagining my little creative studio, I had a great deal of fun making several mixed media 13 Cats drawings which you can marvel at here: Mixed Media Cats  after that I wanted to create all 13 of the cats individually, to give each one a name and a personality in the form of a short poem…I have created seven cats so far and they are all eager to meet and greet you with purrs, love and cuddles…Those of you who are familiar with my Facebook page will have seen the cats already as they’ve been strutting their stuff on the FB catwalk over the last few months…However, if this is your first time meeting this sweet, sassy bunch of characters then hold on tight to your comfy chair you’re in for a delightful show of feline fabulous-ness! The first cat I will be introducing goes by the name of Clawdius Fin…watch this space…

The Very Important Ladybird

Hello fellow sun dipped sparkle bug…  Pull up your comfy chair and try the fudge brownie milkshake, it will knock some serious deliciousness into your belly…*WARNING*… You may find yourself compelled to perform a happy dance after drinking this beverage…

Today I have another quirky tale of wonder to tell you about a pen and ink drawing called, ‘The Very Important Ladybird’.  Firstly, I am a big fan of ladybirds, I love them and will go out of my way to rescue one if I see it in a life threatening situation.   One such situation presented itself several months ago – I was stumbling home from the shop, overladen with heavy grocery bags, when I spotted a bright red dot on the pavement ahead of me.  I knew immediately that it was a ladybird and that it was in grave danger…Coming from the other direction were two people; oblivious to the pavement beneath their feet, they stomped towards the tiny creature at a rapid rate…  There was only one way to handle the situation…dropping all my bags, I yelled ‘STOP!’ at the top of my voice, scared the hell out of the other people and swooped down to pluck the innocent ladybird out of harms way, all in the nick of time!  While the ladybird was recovering from its ordeal on the tip of my finger I marvelled at its beautiful ladybird-ness and the idea for a pen and ink drawing started to form in my mind…

Without further ado, here is my ladybird ‘fan art’, dedicated to these delicate, helpful, aphid-busting wonders of nature!
